I just replaced all eight injector o'rings and sleeves and put on new valve cover gaskets and wiring. After getting it started and let it run alittle bit, I notice fresh oil on the ground under the truck on each side like it's running down the back of the engine on both sides. Is it possible to have the valve cover gaskets leaking at the back. If so, is there a special way of tightening the valve cover bolts with new gaskets?
Also, it is taking quite abit longer cranking time to start now, is this normal until all the HPO and fuel gets back to normal operation? Any thoughts?
Check the valley to see if it's got a bunch of oil in it.
Yes it's possible to have a loose valve cover bolt cause an oil leak. There's no special tightening procedure needed. Stick a socket back on all the bolts and make sure they all feel snug.
Having the truck smoke on start up, take longer to start, and having a rough idle is completely normal after pulling the injectors. You need to get about 50 or so miles on the motor to work all the air out of the rails, then you should be in good shape.
I found out what was going on. After replacing the o'rings and sleeves on the injectors and turning the engine over before putting in the glow plugs, some oil must of gotten into the exhaust system. The oil was leaking the bottom of the exhaust restrictor shaft on the turbo. After running it for awhile, it all cleared up. And after driving it a bit, it starts alot easier now. Thanks for all your info. Also, I replaced the factory down pipe with a Banks, WOW, what a difference in driveabilility.
