Hi. New guy to the forum.
I have a 65 f100 (twin I beam....)
Has anybody tried to install later, ball joint style i beams on an early truck ?
No too many king pin style trucks left around here for donor parts !
If it would work, then i might just have to buy a set of drop beams...
Dave
Dave I don't think a critter that you describe exists. 73-79 donor I-beams have the disc brakes needed, and you can swap dropped beams in when you do the upgrade.
Are you wanting dropped beams & power disc brakes??
Welcome also.I'm new here as well. This is great site and these guys are THE SHIZZ! I think you mean dropped spindles, and I looked all over and don't think anyone makes 'em.Just a thought:Would say an 18 or 20" wheel get a lowered effect? I know it won't really lower it but wouldn't is close the gap between the top of the tire and the bottom of the fender?
Hi Joe..
What I am asking is if 80 and up I beams will fit ??
I am having no luck finding 72 to 79 I beams in this area, but there are several 83 and up. (That is what I meant by asking about BALL JOINT I beams )
Thanks
Dave
I wouldn't try to reinvent the wheel. Do what is easy and use 73-79 i-beams with disc brakes. It's a bolt up swap. It took me a while to find a suitable donor for the right price, but it was worth the wait. Try searching craig's list every day, something is bound to turn up sooner or later.
Dave- update your profile when you get a chance and put where you are located. A lot of times members in your area may have something but there is no way to know where you are right now. I just put the drop I-beams on my truck so I have some spare i-beams off of a '77 that I got with everything I bought. Welcome and good luck. Patience is needed on these trucks as you know by now that everything you need is not easily accessible. It will come your way eventually.

I am in Castroville, CA ( monterey bay area )
Close to salinas, monterey, watsonville etc...
A good friend owns a big wrecking yard in watsonville. The problem is everything more than 10 or 12 years old gets crushed right away !

If you take a look at your I-beams and same ones up to 1979 they attach to the frame on the oppistie side frame rail.
The 1980 and up attach to the middle of the cross member under the engine. You would have to do some major frame modification to put that style on, more work than it would be worth IMHO.
The 1973-1979 are a direct bolt on to your 65. I completed the swap a couple years ago and it is pretty straight forward. Lots of us have completed the swap and can help out where needed.
