help with what this is?

Okay I need to know what this is, right behind the radiator and fan shroud there are two tubes about same size diameter as IC pipe and there is a black boot connecting the two of them, one is smaller in length while on the other end of the boot it is long and goes underneath the air box my reason for asking is there is a ton of soot underneath the boot and around the base of the smaller pipe which I think has some type of valve in it to do with the egr system from which I read on 6.0 bible if someone can tell me the purpose of these pipes and what they do I would like to know and replace this boot

YES thank you Amdriven2liv! it is where the CAC pipe meets the Intake manifold pipe that boot in between them is throwing crap all over the place I want to pull the boot off and see how big the hole is but do not have a replacement in hand how bad is it harming the engine with this leak and what could symptoms be?

I can't imagine why there would be anything such as dirt coming from there. Everything through that tube should be clean. The EGR valve is below there, could it some how be leaking? Hey, I'm new to this motor and am learning as I go.

Yes, unfortunately the vapors from the ccv do pass through there. I removed my cac tube just yesterday and found oil in there. Saw that my boot was weeping some oil. There wasn't much, but still, I want it gone. I'm currently collecting parts for a ccv reroute.

ahh what would happen if one were to buy a long hose pull the ccv out of the intake and route the hose unerneath the truck toward the rear bumper so the ventilation would go out the rear rather than through the IC

There are many threads on this very topic. Oil dripping, smell, dirt plugging the end of tube. But, it can be done, and depending on which state you are in, can be illegal to vent to open air.

Do a quick search "CCV Mod" and enjoy the reading.

very tuff tpoic with lots of thoughts on it. I lean very heavy to a sealed system as the this provides crankcase vacuum to help reduce engine blowby. bismic may chime in here and share the math part. If/when I do mine it will be to a canister with a return.

ah very good point cheezit I never thought of it working as a vacuum and good point amdriven2liv about the smell and the hose clogging however I do live in NY i'm not sure about emissions rules though, I have a question cheezit if I left that boot on and put 200 miles on the truck this weekend pulling a 4k pound trailer could that boot blow off and damage anything or possibly anything else bad happen to my truck? also is this where an exhaust squeal could be coming from?

there should be no exhaust in the intercooler system. so based on that I think I cant awnser. I would go take a look again and revarify whay I am seeing. is oil with dirt or is it soot?

if its soot around the cold side cac tube at the intake suspect egr gaskets, I see you replaced them make sure the bolt holes are not striped out and the valve is fully seated.

When I removed my egr valve and replaced it, it was tough to reseat for some reason. But it did finally seat. Don't like EGR stuff, I now need to replace the "orange" hose with the new "blue" one. (as I've read, blue is not so new any more!)

As for a canister for ccv reroute, I'm going to try this in the 1":

it looked like oil, like the same exact gunk that was sitting outside the turbo to IC boot this looks very similar to that, it could be the ccv passing through?
