Looking for a tow rig
Im now in the market for a tow rig to drag my cherokee from longisland down to Rausch creek in PA Id like to be able to tow at around 70mph, Ive been on the hunt for a nice 7.3 psd f250 or 350 would like a 5 speed behind it too.. Ive come across many trucks most with high mileage around 200-250k Should this worry me or are the 7.3s typicaly very reliable even at this high mileage...do the 5 speed trannys continue to hold? I had a ZF in my 87 and I could see that thing going 500k no problem. What parts get pricey to replace as the motors get older?
200k isn't bad if they have had religious oil changes. There is a link somewhere to a guide on buying a truck like that. Things to check. I don't know it but maybe someone else here will give it to you. I'll bump it up here so someone will post it.
I'm not a 5 speed guy so can't answer you much there. Trucks with that mileage probably need injector work or orings at least if they are original. They aren't real expensive on these trucks. If it needs orings they are only like 60 bucks.

Yes, the 5speeds are the way to go. the autos in stock form aren't great. If your looking for our year trucks. expect around 200k and no that isn't alot if the truck has been maintained well. you have to keep in mind that these trucks are 15 years old now. If you want lower miles you gotta go newer. Depending on the previous owners maintenance, you might have to do injectors after 200k or possibly a new clutch in the tranny. Obviously all the maintenance work that you would expect out of any vehicle.
