knock knock

97 f-150 has a knock at the bell housing. Scoped the block,the heads, everywhere. The loudest point seems to be coming from around the starter,any have any idea what it might be?

What needs to be done to replace a broken flex plate?

The transmission has to come out then it just unbolts from the crankshaft. I would first pull the starter and spin the flex plate with a large screwdriver or something similiar and see if you can see any damage.

My truck has the same noise and I did check for cracks and loose bolts and there wasn't anything obvious. Would it be an obvious crack?

if it is cracked it's right by the crank and you wouldn't be able to see it
