odd start up problem

Right off the bat it starts up, when you stop and then come back about 10 min later you have a 50% chance it will start up 30 min or so and no good. wait an hour pull the fuel filter / purge it and then try again it will start up after about 10-20 sec. the tail pipe might have a tiny puff of white smoke and temprature doesnt seem to matter. first time it was cold and started snowing. the 2nd time it was sunny and the engine block was still hot to the touch. As far as i can tell its like its not getting fuel. the system has a oem 70psi fuel pump circulating the fuel through the filter so air is removed.

i would guess with the no warm start and easy cold start you are in need of an injection pump

If it's a Diesel (You don't say) ... I'll second the bad IP.

Hot worn out IP's can't pump the pressure needed to pop the Injectors at low RPM.

Are you sure @70psi??? The factory lift pump is 4 1/2 to 5 3/4 psi... If you go to much higher, my understanding is that you can damage the ip from over pressure... not positive, but i'm sure the powers that know will correct me here...

using a high pressure in tank fuel pump (70 psi in your case) is likely what killed your IP.
in order to use one of these, you need to put a regulator on it.
even then,i keep reading poor results trying to use one.
your better off ditching that high pressure pump, and using an external low pressure mounted one down on the frame rail.
wrechinball tried this recently and never could get his working right as i recall.
there is good news hopefully.if you had over 100k on the IP(lets face it,today's fuel isn't like it used to be),it's a good idea to have it rebuilt or replaced with new so its back in specs anyway for max performance and fuel economy.

I think if it had a 70 PSI pump it would have blown the seal out of the IP and there would be fuel everywhere.

Nope it doesn't blow the seals but it does mess with the timing advance bad. wrecking ball ran his a long time before he accidently killed the power to the pump and heard how his motor was supposed to sound. lol

Kenpo runs one, but has a regulator with a return.
This is hard on a good ip, but a bad one that wont start, you can pour water on it and get it started (usually) If the Ip is not wore out though this can damage it too though.

that pump would work but some guys have had problems with some companies so wait for someone to chime in.as far as a rebuild kit im sure you could get one but without some special equipment you may get a run away motor if you get something wrong and these things have to have the internals precise.so i would suggest leaving the rebuilding to a professional with the equipment thats needed to properly do it.i would pay the extra just to save my motor.

More people have posted bad results with Diesel Care products than they have posted good results.

Most have said they had good warranty service when they did have a problem, but that just means you may have to change the IP more than once.

cool, Im happy to use a warranty rather then pay more..... poor farmer so even if it means changing parts out its all good. where possible I get lifetime warranty ug hopefully only a fiew more parts and it will be "good as new"

a few folks have reported good results with this one:
Pensacola Fuel Injection | Worlds #1 Diesel Rebuilder - FORD 6.9L - 7.3L :: REBUILT FUEL INJECTION PUMPS
most prefer it over diesel cares reputation iv noticed.

one example.best to search the idi section yourself for more results though.
wise is the man who learns and listens to others experiences.
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...th-buying.html

remember when it comes to the IP,just because it "works",doesn't mean its operating at optimum condition.with today's fuel prices, choosing the incorrect IP can be a very, very costly mistake in short order.

Since Im new to diesel I appriciate the info and love hearing more. power = good reliability = good cheeper running = good when it doesnt cost me in the long run. I want it to run well for a verry long time. I try to take care of my vehicles so if the part will cause problems with other parts or run inefficently i defonatly want to know. if its just likely to wear out sooner i dont care as much. partly why i go for good warranty i dont mind fixin stuff aslong as it makes sense why it broke I truely appriciate all the help
