Fuel line woes

I after having some carb trouble the other day (more clogged filters) I decided to yank off the fuel line that runs from the pump up to the carb and clean it, big mistake! I put it back on and the fitting that screws into the fuel pump won't seal at all, and every time it get the slightest pressure in it it just leaks gas all over the place. I do have some damaged threads on the line, but they don't reach the threads on the pump (they are the threads that stick out beyond the ones that screw into the pump, if you get what I'm trying to say) No matter how hard I tighten it it just won't seal, so is there a gasket that is suppose to go in between the pump and the line or something?

Sam

P.S. Can I buy gas line and bend it myself, like brake line?

Are you using a flare wrench to tighten it? The flared surface of the flare is what actually makes the seal; the threads only serve to tighten the flared surface down. No gasket here, and definitely no sealant.

Make sure that the flared surfaces are clean and smooth. And yes, you can buy steel line and bend it and flare it yourself. I really, really hate bending metal tubing - personally I'd see if you can get a ready-made line through LMC or something. The reason that would be better is because I assume the other end of your fuel line goes to fuel hose for the filter - and it's hard to barb a line yourself. A replacement fuel line will most likely have a flare fitting on end and be barbed on the other.

I was backing my 78' into my RV parking and the car died the other day. I noticed there was no gas in my glass bulb after the pump. I check all the lines back to the tank. The last hose from the pump to the metal gas line I thought was clogged so I took off both end and blew through it. That was fine then I took off the small filter and blew through that. It was a little tuff to blow through so I replaced for $4 bucks AutoZone.

The truck would still not start so I was feeding the carb gas.... and did not see gas in the bulb. I put gas the bulb thinking it might help since i was desperate. I noticed after trying to start the truck for about 30 minutes the carb was flooded. So, I did not push the gas and after a few cranks it started.

Not sure about the fuel pump mine was just replaced before my gas line issue.

But my point is it took a while for my truck to fire up.

I never took the lines off directly off the pump.
