Transmission Codes
I've just bought a 1988 F-250 & 1990 F-150, both 4WD. the transmission code for the '88 is "K", while the code for the '90 is "E" (both automatics). Where can I find out what these codes mean? Also, will the transmission out of the F-150 work in the F-250?

The E4OD is computer-controlled and the C-6 is a vacuum-controlled NON-overdrive. They have the same bellhousing bolt pattern and the same t-case mounting pattern, but they're NOT "interchangeable". It'll take a good bit of effort to swap either way.

The E4OD is based on the C-6, but the bean-counters carried more weight than the engineers on the redesign. The C-6 is much stronger. It doesn't really matter though because without the addition of as computer or a stand-alone controller like Baumann's you can't drop an E4od in place of a C-6
