1st oil change

Well I changed the oil on our 03 Sunfire. Motor is a 2.2 L. Ecotek. Had 500 km's or 310 miles. Used Havoline 5w-30. The new oil filter arrangement is different. It is now in a canister that points up situated at the front of the block towards the right. All oil drains back into the crankcase. I have never filled a new oil filter so I don't mind this. Had to use a 1-1/4 inch socket to remove the lid off the canister. That's a big socket. Oil filter came right out with the lid. I like this better then the filter on the side or the bottom of the block as it is easier to remove and install. Now if they would just put the drain plug on the front of the oil pan. I am sending the oil in for analysis.

Hmmm, thats an interesting arrangement for the filter. How do you like the ecotec so far? It looks like a good design. Thanks.

I like the motor. I think it is a little noisier then our Sunfire with a 2.4 L was. Runs nice though.

Noticed that a new FORD 6.0L diesel also has an oil filter the same style as the ecotec. A canister pointing up.
Anyone else seen this?

So is the filter a normal screw-on filter like we are used to seeing, or is it actually a cartridge type like on some older vehicles. Our fire dept. has a 1972 Ford C 750 cab-over with a 391 v8 that has a cartridge that sits inside a canister. Our identical 1974 truck has a modern screw-on filter.

The filter on the ecotec is a cartridge type. On the Diesel, I seen a brochure that advertised a cartride. It looked just like the canister on the ecotec. Ever buy those noodles that sell for about 10 cents in the grocery store? Those oriental noodles. That is what the filter material on the ecotec looks like. So much for an anti drain back valve. It all drains back anyway.
