There are two guys at my work that have ATS trannies and from their stories about warranty issues and breakage, I'd wouldn't mess with them. I've even rode in one of those trucks and wasn't impressed at all. Get a BTS or a John Woods unit.

I remember reading about a horror story about the same issue Chris I don;t remember if it was here or elsewhere though.
The warranty problem stemmed from having a tuner on the truck and they voided it - this was my co-workers issue. I guess their warranty doesn't cover tuned or chipped trucks. And IIRC, he paid almost the same amount I did for my BTS unit that comes with Brian's "I dare you to break it" warranty.

What are Suncoast? Anyone hear anything bad about them?
Suncoast builds a good tranny. I have toured their facility, and they are really nice people. They build all their torque converters in house, and have a large parts warehouse. I think they specialize more in the dodge and allison trannies than they do the fords. their warranty is different than brians, or john woods. they dont care if you chip it, race it, pull with it, or tow with it, but after 2 years its yours. I stopped by their facility last May and their strongest 4r100 with billet input shaft, and best TC ws around $6500 installed.
I just rebuilt my 4R100 trans using parts from Suncoast. Since these are the same parts they use when rebuilding theirs, I'd say they build a pretty good trans.

I have a Sun Coast trans in my truck, when I bought it they still had the three year warranty, two years plus into that warranty the triple disc torque converter started sounding like rocks in a can, got pretty bad, pulled pan and saw what looked like a silver colored powder just beginning to show up in the pan, called and spoke with the woman that owns the place, she did not believe me when I said that I have the three year warranty, was quite rude about it, I sent copies of all my paper work showing that I in fact had the three year warranty, long story short, they sent me a new torque converter after receiving the original, no charge, they honored the agreement. I found the shop guys to be great to talk with, the owner I would never deal with again. If I had it to do over again I would get a BTS first choice or a John Woods. I will say that Sun Coast builds a very good trans, as for the torque converter, I love it, no problems since, as for customer service from the owner, very disappointing.
I drove my friends ford with the ATS and five star and did not like it at all.The shifts was slow and could not fill the converter lock.My stock trans with the BTS valve body fills 100% better.
We have a ATS trans in our shop truck, everytime you try to pull a load it goes into "safe mode" and wont shift right. Its been back 3-4 times for that problem and no can figure out whats wrong.
Its a very expensive piece of scrap.
Thanks for all the great info guys, I would get BTS, but I called them and they can't even start building one until June, and I can't wait that long. Right now I'm thinking suncoast, I've heard very good things about Racer X transmissions also.
