hi everyone, I never thought I would have a problem towing with my early 99 F350 7.3, but on one of my last trips out I was climbing a steep hill, going like 10 miles an hour. I was pulling a 20 foot car trailer weighing say 5k total. needless to say the tranny bubbled over out the top. At what temp does it bubble over? I changed the fluid, and its all good..... I just dont want it to happen again. Where would you guys recomend me tapping into while installing the tranny temp guage? I did a search and see there are are a few different ways to get the temp. I dont tow too often and it will only be a car trailer filled with motorcycles. Thank you for the help!
do you have the E40D or the 4R100? it should have a temp sensor in it and when you buy a guage kit you replace it with the one that comes with the guage. i dont know why you would drill and tap it.
Dean is correct. I would highly recommend the sensor/gauge. Towing that little #`s and overheating dosent sound right but after you install gauges you can monitor temps. Anything over 225 is bad. Pull over and let it rest with motor running. If problem persists then look at a 6.0 tranny cooler, they are bigger, my .02
Thank you ver much for all the help! what are the pros and cons of isspro or autometer? In my cars I always had autometer guages. Autometer is like 50 bucks cheaper from summit racing. Again thanks!
Update! Well I went with the Diesel Manor kit, and they seem to work great! My tranny looks like it stays right around 150-160. Is that about normal? pyro Id say right around 600 most of the time. What do you think?

600 egt's is good for just going down the road, When towing or something then you will see if climb, be careful when you start getting around 1200F
For the tranny I would think just a pinch higher but you are fine.
Diesel Manor Blows! Well I was hoping the outcome would have been better, but when I ordered my kit they failed to include the red and black electrical harness. So I knew my package would be here on Friday, I scheduled to have my mechanic friend help me with the install. Since he put off other work to help me, I just went down and bought the wires and plugs. Cost me right around 15 bucks. I called Diesel Manor today, and yes they apologized, but said since it only would have cost them 2 bucks to make it, that's all they would refund. What a Joke, I'm sorry, I see his point, but I just dropped 430. bucks, on a kit, and that's how you will treat me? I will never recommend them to anyone. BTW I told them to send me another, so I get my 2 dollar wire and they pay shipping. that will get at least 5 out of them greedy clowns.
