well long story shot dist. would'nt turn when i bought the truck locked up oil pump who knew lol only took 2 weeks to figure that out any way got it up and running timing set by ear, runs actually pretty good, so it starts up fine runs pretty good but after driving a bit and only when its at operating temp i shut it down and try to start it and it barely wants to turn over and wont start as soon as it cools down it will fire back up so yea i have no idea
Its your stock starter, its probably overheating or not up to the job, are you running headers? higher compression than stock? even duals with one tube passing by it will overheat it.
you could also let it go up to temp, shut it off and back a bit teh timming to see if it will turn..
good call yes it does have long tubes on it had that thought but it looked new prolly just clean (rare) gonna get one soon and change it out and i will try readjusting the timing thanxs bud
maybe you can get away with just sanding the rust off? probably rusted right there from previously being cleaned. one option is what they call a 'dial back timing light'. it has a **** on it that allows you to set the desired advance on the dial then set it to zero, if you can see zero?
another option is a 'timing tape'. it's just a sticker that you apply to the balancer and it has better markings than what comes on a stock balancer. cheaper than a new balancer too, you just need to get the outter ring clean enough for it to stick on. what i do is get it good n clean then paint it. then apply the sticker to the painted surface. mine's still on there like 20 years later but the sticker numbers are getting fuzzy lately. well worth the $.
