death wobble question

death wobble question

i researched some past threads but didn't exactly find what i was looking for.
i have what i believe to be death wobble as many have described. the truck gets very shaky about 35-45 mph. some times it happens and other times it doesn't. seems to mostly be the left side. before i purchased the truck the tie rods were replaced. since i purchased it the brakes have been completely redone. the wheel bearings greased and packed. then last weekend all 4 ball joints were replaced. i still have death wobble. so now i am looking at replacing the trac-bar bushings as several threads said to do.
this is going to sound stupid but what/where is the trac-bar? i even have the Ford shop manual and it mentions it but not much else. any help? or even pics? or any other ideas what might be causing the problem?

Does your truck have a lift kit? If it does, the that might have thrown off the frontend geometry and auing the wobble.

Trac-bar........you can't miss it. It runs from a bracket on the drivers side frame rail......to the passenger side of the front axle (near the coil spring). The trac-bar is the most likely culprit of the death wobble. Most likely, the caster is out of spec too.

Worn "C" bushings or bad radius arm bushings can cause this as well.

pretty sure there is no lift.
hillbilly thanks for the info. that is what i thought. i ordered some new bushings today. how do i correct the caster as well?
the c bushings look newer as well. they are red and i believe they are poly urethane.

Caster is adjusted by the "C" bushings, and/or offset ball joint sleeves. If the truck has no lift....caster is probably still good. But....like 75F350 said, they are probably worn and need replacing anyway. Before you replace them, you need to check your caster. Then remove your old bushings. After you check the number on the old bushings, order the new bushings accordingly.

In addition to the above suff, do also make sure that the "C" bushings were installed correctly.
Also make sure that the radius arm bushings are not broken inside of the bracket where it meets the frame.
Trac bar bushings should take care of the problem though.

hahaha.....yeah the "C" bushings aren't idiot proof.

.....They can be installed upside down

I had the same issues as you and after replacing the trac bar bushings, all is well. Certainly make me a little more confident on the road!
