Another screwy gear question!
On the rear axles, I have a 1ton dually factory 1994 rear axle. I want to say I have the 3.73 or what ever is common in it. I am doing my swap from a 97 F250, and was checking out the rear axle briefly. From what I could get off the tag on the diff, I want to say it has 4.10s in it.. Can I swap just the gears off of a 250 rear axle into a 350 rear axle?
Bottom line on the tag will start with .10, .73, or .55 if it is an open axle.
Bottom line will start with L10, L73 or L55 if it is limited slip.
The 10 number will be a 4.10 ratio axle
The 73 number will be a 3.73 ratio axle
The 55 number will be a 3.55 ratio axle
The next three numbers, either 10 2 or 10 5 will indicate 10.25" ring gear or 10.5" ring gear.
All trucks 97 and before should be 10.25" ring gear with 6.5" x 8 bolt pattern on the hubs.
99 and newer trucks should have the 10.5" ring gear with 170 mm x 8 bolt pattern on the hubs.
The ring gear and pinion should be interchangable, but pay attention to the pinion shaft length.
There were two styles, long and short shaft, if they are different you need to swap the yoke as well.
Dave.. Thank you for the tag identification information! I had removed the tag the other day to bring in and identify the gears and such.. But you found me the answer I was looking for on it! Just awesome!!!
The axle under my donor truck starts out L10, which with the answers you gave, I will want to keep, and now knowing it swaps with mine, I will add that to the list of what I am swapping!
God, this is great info! Thank you all very much!!!!
