Engine Swap

I want to swap the Carborated I-6 In my 85 F-150 4x4 to a Fuel injected 5.0 for an 86 f-150 Do I need to swap the entire wiring harness or can I get away with just swapping the engine harness. I have the donor truck and it is complete. I also want to bore the block thirty over and install a mild cam and I was wondering if the stock injectors are enough. Any help would be great.

Hmmm...well I'm doing the same thing. Carb'd 302 for EFI 302. Main thing is to make sure you have the in tank fuel pumps,high pressure fuel pump plus the associated plumbing. Look for the electrical connector to power the high pressure pump. Its generally a 'white' connector, tied in with the wiring harness that goes to the rear of the truck. Mine dangles just behind the engine mount cross member. Also, if your fuel tank electrical connectors are for fuel gauge only, then you are looking at trying to figure out how to wire the pumps from the ignition/tank selector. I pulled the entire fuel system from an '86 Van with an EFI 302 and am installing in my '86 150. Its been a real head scratcher. Keep us posted.

I was planning on buying new pump and sending unit. And running new lines. The othe truck has a duel tank setup and both of the tanks are bigger than mine. My plan was to completly transplant the other trucks wiring harnes into mine but, I was looking for a shortcut. I have to take the entire dash out of my truck anyway so I figured that would be a good time to do it If I had to.

The EEC harness has some (ignition run, start, gauges, a/c) connections to the main harness, but it's more or less standalone.

The stock injectors are good for ~275hp and you'll be nowhere close to needing bigger.
