After pulling a small amount of my hair out, and considering the fact that it is still under a warranty, I will take it to the dealer to let them fuss with it. I will watch the tech do the switch, and see what pain he has to endure. The last thing I want to do is screw up the fuel lines.
You know how pissed you are going to be if the tech walks up and changes that filter in a few seconds without any pain or fuss.
I am a mechanic and I always like it when a customer comes in telling me how they tried to do something and couldnt figure it out and I get it done with my eyes closed.
You got to be missing something. I am not a pro but never had a problem with it. Try getting it past the drive line further back down the frame and feeding it up.
I agree, it isn't that difficult, conceptually. Maybe I should tenderly try to unhook the hard lines in front of the pump, both up and down from the pump, to see if they gives them more play so that I can squeeze the filter in and out.
I will try that this afternoon and see if the area enlarges if I do that. I just hate messing with those lines too much.
How much trouble is it to add a short extension and re-route the fuel lines, or perhaps even relocate the entire HFCM unit?
I know that that activity is beyond both my desire and abilities, currently. But installing the HFCM on the backside of the TC would have eliminated any and all of the crying I have been doing in this thread. Just installing the thing 18" down the frame would have been so much more convenient.
If you can find a E series, it uses a Vertical Fuel Conditioning Module that is far easier to work on...
And it is mounted on the outer side of the rail
There has to be an engineering thought process behind the placement and design. Whether or not those thoughts are based on common sense, we will probably never know. I have a feeling that some, if not most, design choices are aimed at funneling the owners into the service departments of dealerships!!
