gearloose1 - that is what I was thinking, I might have to try that. Seems I would have to jack it 'way' up to get enough clearance.

Why Ford could not have put the pump about 18" behind the transfer case is beyond me - nothing on the frame behind the transfer case to get in the way. One of those 'stupid' design choices.

Anyone else seen this, especially Excursion owners??

Hey, if you want to be brilliant...

Reroute the thing, put it on the outside rail somewhere.

I think I remember putting the element between the driveshaft and frame rail toward the rear, where it has angled upward to the TC, (or maybe even beyond the TC) and once between the driveshaft and frame rail it was clear to slide forward, and then snapping on the cap. Maybe you are missing something obvious like that. Or maybe a Scurge is just different.

I do remember that mine also would not fit in the spot shown in your pictures.

It was not so much a tight squeeze, as it was challenging to keep the element clean during the manuever.

if you put the filter above the front drive shaft towards the front of the truck where there is more room you can then have it above the driveshaft in the back where you squeeze your hand through to grab the filter and put it in the housing, did one today exact same way

OK, yeah, so I did as you guys have suggested and I can get the filter to the front of the filter housing, from behind and next to the TC. But when I get it to the pump, there is that hard line that attaches to the bottom of the pump that is not flexible whatsoever. I am afraid of torquing that line too much to squeeze the old filter out and the new filter in. My second pic, poor as it is, shows that line that attaches to the base of the pump.

I think I am just going to take it to a dealer and have them do it when I get the tires rotated and balanced. Just seems like my set up is counter-intuitive and not the same as the rest of the worlds SuperDuty's!!

I think that dieselsite, or one of the other vendors should make a relocation kit. A few lines, a harness extention, some hardware................

Even if I dropped the drive shaft, that one line attached to the bottom of the pump would need to be seriously torqued upward, or completely removed, in order to push or pull a new filter!

After pulling a small amount of my hair out, and considering the fact that it is still under a warranty, I will take it to the dealer to let them fuss with it. I will watch the tech do the switch, and see what pain he has to endure. The last thing I want to do is screw up the fuel lines.

LOL - I agree! But there is something different about my Ex that is not quite the same. Like I said, even if that drive shaft wasn't there, I would still be looking at 2 stinking lines in the way - one could be pushed out of the way, the other is just plainly blocking it. I want somebody else to take responsibility for changing that filter while I watch them - someone with the means to fix everything on the truck.
