can you chang manul hub to self locking hubs on a 1984 f-150 or whould it be better to stay with manul hubs and how hard would it be

wish someone would answer...i have an 83 i would like to convert to auto hubs if possible........

I don't think its very hard to do but I think you will regret it. If there is a problem with the auto hubs and you really need 4x4 you won't have it. Manual hubs are much more reliable and much stronger. Most people swap from auto to manual so if you really want to you may be able to swap someone who has a mid 90's F150.

thanks for the info....i think i will keep my manual hubs...i will just have to get better hubs.....

No problem at all. I suggest a set of warn hubs, thats what I run when my stock ones go and they seem to work very well. Welcome to FTE by the way!

frank1971, bignasty, Keep your manual hubs. If you need new ones, stay with the manuals. You will never "wonder" if you are in 4 wheel drive. And you won't wind up stuck, if the automatic hubs don't work at the wrong time.
