Hey we are getting closer to painting on our 1981 F250 and i had some questions on the paint. First off the engine paint. We bought a can of Ford blue from our local auto parts store, but it tends to be a whole lot darker then what it looks like orginally came on it. Where is a good place to get the correct color engine paint for the engine, since its not the regular Ford blue i don't guess haha. Second off, is there any codes on the truck that we can use to match up the correct paint color on what first came on the truck? If there is, who can match them up and get a great quality paint and it be the orginal color? Thanks guy, been reading a lot of the threads on here and it has helped a heck of a lot on the project

There are 2 ford blues 66-80 and 81-up. Sounds like you have the earlier.
As for the exterior paint.. There is a sticker in the door jamb. Under paint there will be a 2 didget code. May be just letters or have numbers. What color is it?
There are others online too. Get the paint code from your driver's door jam and look it up. It will give you the name of the color and you can get an idea what it will cost (you may want to be sitting down when you see the price :-). They sell everything from spray bombs to gallon cans. If you do a yahoo or google search for automotive paint you can find other places to compare prices.
I got paint mixed up at Napa for my truck. Got 2010 grabber blue mixed up in gallon was $102. Matched the color perfect. Napa has pretty good paint in my opinion. I got the paint code from paintscratch website.
If you have one good spot of paint left on your truck, Sherwin Williams (automive branch) can use a special camera that shoots for pigments and tells him exatly how to mix the paint, so its a perfect match. Or he can look at the code in your door and mix it from there for an exact paint that would have been used in 81.

That is incorrect.
"Old Ford Blue" is a lighter blue that was used until 1965.
"Ford Blue" or "Ford Corporate Blue" is a darker shade, almost navy blue, that was used from 1966 - 1981.
"Ford Gray" was used from 1982 - until.
The "correct" color for your truck would be "Ford Gray." But I have noticed that most people tend to use "Old Ford Blue" when they repaint their Ford engines.
