Used tires are pretty hot items on Craigslist. You should be able to recoup much of it. I hope you kept them.

I agree, that is a small price to pay to keep safe. Like I am getting to say and do more often, "get it right the first time, even if it costs more."

Good job - one thing on the Yokohamas is to keep them rotated more often than a regular set. I would do it every oil change or 3000 miles - they tend to cup easily and will get noisy on the road.

Remember the Explorer rollover fiasco?

Originally Explorers came with D rated tires, then Ford began installing C rated tires to save a few bucks, and against the advice of Firestone, underinflated them to give a softer ride.

It didn't help when the Firestone tires were found to be defective.

After the rollover fiasco, Ford began installing D rated tires on Explorers...again.

I've got D rated falkens on my Ex and they wobble slightly, but they're 285/75/16's. We hardly drive itand we bought the tire in July and we've put only 4500 miles on the tires. If i had it to do over again, I would've went back with the E rated tire. Just please don't but bridgestone allenza's, I got only 23000 miles out of ours and followed all there guidelines as far as rotating and alignment and they don't come with a warranty. They suck and went completely bald and one lost the tread while my wife a kids were driving it. good luck

If I had a family I probably would go with Ds or Es also, but it is just me 99% of the time.

+1.

To take it a step farther, if I knew of an even stronger side-wall tire that wasn't cost prohibitive, I'd be running that one instead.

I have the Falken Ziex S/TZ LT285/75R16D, they are plenty strong enough for towing my 4K boat, not as big as tdappleman's, but they are 65 psi rated at 3305 lbs., I had them balanced on the Hunter GSP9700 Road Forced Balancer and had the alignment checked also. They now have about 10k miles on them and they still look new and trouble free, handling was greatly improved from the Pirelli Scorpions that were on "Blue" when I bought it.

The only tires you should ever find on any Ford.

Even if it's a Focus.

I just hope the two of us or anyone else ever meets "just you" coming down the road with those "C" tires. You would definately erase someone else's family. Pushing Four and one-half tons(9000lbs) down the road is some serious weight.

Actually it is 7500 pounds and they are rated at 2850 pounds at 50 PSI each (11,400 pounds total). Besides; I kicked them hard with my steel toe boots and they didn't pop. .........I like my new tires.
