When I am driving down the road in a straight line my steering wheel needs to be turned a little to the left to stay straight, the steering wheel will want to go back to the straight position if you let go of it, and will stay in that position. The problem being if the steering wheel is straight I am going into the ditch. Anyone know what the problem could be and what I should do to fix it?
honestly there isnt much you can do to fix that because the truck is going to naturally travel away from the crown in the road (where the road comes to a high point the road is slightly angled to allow for better drainage to avoid accidents) just go with it
lew do you agree with the crown of the road statement i made i do not want to be wrong about this because i know on flat surfaces (like parking lots and such) my truck travels fine and straight without me holding the steering wheel but on a road that is crowned or has an angle it wants to travel away from the highest point
isnt there a adjuster on the tierod bewteen the steering box and where the two tierods meet? I think there is, thats the adjuster you can turn to center up the steering wheel. I shouldn't screw with the toe either.. the adjuster out buy each tire is for the toe adjustments.
I understand what your saying about the crown of the road, but my truck does this constantly, I was in a parking lot and with the steering wheel straight I turn slightly to the right, and if I turn it where my truck drives in a straight line my steering wheel is off maybe 2 inches.
I have been researching this same issue on my truck and can't figure why I have to steer so far to the opposit direction to keep the truck from going into the ditch. The last poster said an alignment was needed. I took my truck in and they said my alignment was fine, and even showed me all the specs on the measurements they took.
Anyone have any ideas why the truck heads right for the ditch? If I am on the correct side of the 2 lane road it heads to the right, if I move across the center line it then heads to the left.
