IP Replacement interval

Experienced opinions?:

'89 E350 7.3 E4OD 8000lb

IP rebuilt & new injectors @ 150K, then mileage on flat interstate approaching 17mpg... now, about 75K miles later, best mileage is 13, smokes a little & reluctant to start in cold weather... ok, reasonable... It doesn't get used much anymore, but I have to take it cross country fully loaded soon, so.. you think just change the injectors at this point, or would you really want to do the pump too at 75K mi?

I've always heard 100K rule of thumb on pumps. I changed mine at 200K and the injectors at 250K. Didn't help with mileage, gained a little power on flat ground. But it still smokes and is still pretty slow on the hills.

There is another thread going with some good tips for mileage gains.

You might try checking the basics first, fuel and air filter, tire pressure, fan clutch staying engaged, lift pump failing, etc.

Not being used much and most places still using winter blend fuel. Along with what Rcrawler said I'd use a good fuel conditioner and run the truck a bit more before leaving on the trip.

Make sure your belts and hoses are in good shape. Remember the ultra low sulfur fuel does not get the mileage of the old fuel anyway, winter blend will reduce mileage also.
