Running Hot?

Now I can drive my old 1950 F1. However I noticed that the temperature gauge needle moves half-way between cold and hot. It has plenty of anti-freeze. Is this normal for this model?

running hot.

Joker, I can't answer your question, but I have a suggestion. go to your local parts store and buy a small temp gun, they are CHEAP. Follow the directions and point it at the top radiator tank where the hose inlet is. Then you will know what the real temp is, and you'll know what that spot on the gauge really means. With that info there will be lots of opinions on what is should be. IF you have a problem the gun will really help identify it. You can check the temp at the bottom of the radiator to measure it's cooling ability, check one head against the other, etc. etc.

Typically, if the needle in the temp gauge is pointing towards the center of the range, it is indicating normal operating temperature.

It doesn't sound too bad, but I have a quick question - just for the sake of asking:

Is the engine an IL6 or a V8, and is your gauge installation stock?

Ok that's two questions

If the needle is half way between C and H on a stock gauge, the temp is right on.

It is a V8 and the gauge is stock. It usually stays halfway between C and H. I just was concerned if this was normal. I am hearing that it is normal. Thanks-Joker50

At this point I'm just glad the gauge works!
