The lights will fit fine. I have 92-96 tail lights in my 1980.
The only issue is the newer lights are rounded to match the newer beds, while the 80-86 lights are 3 angled to match the bed. The rounded edge sorta stands out up close, but from 5-10 feet away, it's not really noticeable.
The light sockets fit perfectly, and the newer lights are MUCH brighter than 25-30 year lenses.
Thanks! I'm wanting to get some black tailights. The only black hosuing ones I can find are those years. I've currently got mine painted with transparent black paint they look fine but are hard to see during the day.
Yeah, they fit real well, but stick out just a bit at the top/bottom where the corner is flattened on the 80-86 bed.
The reverse lights are 100 times better, as they actually point to the rear, rather than the sides.
A little bit off topic, but I replaced the standard taillight bulbs with those ganged LED bulbs that fit into the standard socket. I think they are noticeably brighter in the existing housing.
Also off-topic (but related): My brother used to use those LEDs in his 96 Bronco -
yes, they are SUBSTANTIALLY brighter, according to him - but their installation resulted in
him repeatedly burning out his 3rd brake lamp (didn't happen instantly, it took time but kept
happening) so he reverted back to standard bulbs.
Polishing compound on the plastic lenses will help clear those up.
