My 69 F100 with 240 and T18 won't start. I have tried new coil, wires, plugs etc. All the connections appear to be good. I have no spark. I tried putting a plug on the coil wire and grounding directly to the frame and still nothing. Any ideas? I need this truck to get to work and I am at a loss. Is there anywhere between the coil and ignition key/switch that could cause a no spark situation? I have ruled out distributor and grounding problems as I have done the coil to frame test. Thoughts???
Probably not that simple as when I tried to crank it with the dizzy cap off, I noticed the rotor was not turning while the crank/fan was... Snapped/stripped distributor shaft???
OUCH! Dizzy not spinning?
- Depending on where the points ended up, you may never build enough voltage in the coil to create a spark.
- If it's a sheared pin in the distributor gear you may not see spark...
- If it's a broken timing chain as DarrellJ submits you wont have proper compression in the cylinders or proper distributor operation... Unfortunately, Ford used plastic teeth on the camshaft gear and I have seen these go. Pull a valve cover to see if everything is moving. One blessing is - non-interference valves.
I may have to sink to new lows and drive my friends 68 GMC until I get time to open things up... I am now shopping for a 12v Cummins 4x4 truck to drive for a while, then maybe put the F100 body on it some day! That would be the dream work truck for me as I love the Cummins but hat the Dodge body.
