Exhaust heat riser
A question has arisen in the FE forum. Do the 67 - 72 390's have heat riser valves on the passenger side exhaust manifolds?
There wasn't one on my 68 390. There is one for a 66 GT manifold on ebay, and the parts stores around here list them as far back as 73. My shop manuals for the 68 show them for the 240 and 300, but make no mention of them for the V8 engines. There is one on ebay, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...401044616&rd=1
but if you look at it, there seems to be some confusion as to the part number.
I just got off the phone with the Ford dealership, and he says that the 352 had 'em, but not the 360/390.
I'm really confused now. The truth is out there....
If it had a heat riser, it would have been on the driver’s side exhaust manifold.
Most of the 352’s had ‘em, so did some of the late 360/390’s. They required a special driver’s side exhaust manifold with a flange that was flat so a gasket could fit between the manifold and valve assy. The regular manifolds were carved for a donut.

This auction is why I thought it would be on the passenger side for a truck. The guy is probably misinformed.

Anyway, after I wrote, I was looking at my manifolds, and they are both carved for a donut, so I doubt that I need a heat riser. Also, I was thinking that I wouldn't necessarily need it for quicker warm up, since headers wouldn't provide for one either.
Thanks.
Personally I don't like valves in the exhaust system. You get enough exhaust pulsing for the crossover to work anyway.
