I have had both....

I special ordered an 06 F250 V10 6 speed manual for pulling out 5th wheel. My left hip went bad and had to seel the truck and get an automatic.

I traded for an 07 Silverado HD2500 6.0L and I will be the first to say it was a very nice truck. It drove well, handled well and got the same awful mpg as the V10...actually the V10 got better mileage.

I buy wood pellets for our stove a ton at a time. I just have the guy load a fuill pallet in the bed and drive it home...never an issue...the Chevy handled this well.

THEN, we come to pulling the 5th wheel....the 6.0L is barely adequate at 12,600 pounds. When it comes to any hills, the tranny drops to 2nd gear and the tack races to over 4,000 rpm, and the gas gauge drops like a rock....ugh!!!

After one season of towing with this barely adequate truck, I started looking for another V10...as I bought the Chevy new, I was looking at taking a real financial bath on a trade, so I thought I was stuck with the 6.0...

THEN, last week I found a 2005 Super Crew V10 at a dealer in Jacksonville, IL, with 34,000 miles in outstanding condition. After $900 + tax and plate transfer fees, I once aghain have a V10 FORD Super DUty...

We are already planning our camping trips, and no longer have to worry about hills.

My Chevy never got 14 mpg....not ever. My 1st tank on the V10 was 13.97 mpg....I am looking for 15 mpg hiway with the 3.73 rear end.

If Car and Driver would have put 13,000 pounds on the truck, they would have easily seen how pathetic the GM 6.0L really is!!!

I agree.
Speaking of them doing it all the time, have you seen the 2010 Motor trend truck of the year test? They never even tested the SD, they just gave it to dodge.

Car and Driver is the Consumer Reports of credibility.

They did a test on whether brakes always overpower the engine at full throttle...

Botched the test --- and made a fool of themselves.

I never trust them to do anything but to get the latest ad dollar for themselves.

I was PISSED when I saw that!

I bet they got a few nasty letters for doing that, I saw a video on youtube showing the big 3 towing 10K up a 15% grade from a dead stop. Even with a 5 second head start, the dodge dually 3500 got passed up by a DRW F350. They were trying to help dodge launch the 2010 Ram 3500 without being embarrassed by Ford....'nuff said.

I don't think that test on youtube was fair either.

There was a test that took the top 3 and had them do just about that same thing, they were all within a second of each other.
The gearing, HP, TQ and weight is just to close for either the 6.4 F350 or 6.7 Ram 3500 to have any real advantage.

That test picked the V10 as the best gasser and the Dmax as the overall winner.

Ive seen this video before...and the changes from 99-00 on the SD were significant enough to make this test worthless.

that comment "why do Fords always have to be so tall?" realy drives the nail home as to why that guy hasnt got a clue..

its tall because its a TRUCK not a car..

also another spot on both videos that show a biase is on interiors.. on the first video they say the Chevy is better due to having no center console in the front. then in the very next video they again give the Chevy the interior win because it has the center console..

WTH ???

I know for me I have pulled my 30'TT with my '01 V10 and my brother-in-laws '02 6.0 chevy and I really think the V10 pulls it easier. The extra torque makes a difference and real life tests are better. Also, who knows in their test what rear end each truck had. We all know what a difference gear ratios can make. They also left out that the bed is a little longer on the Ford which is originally why I chose the Ford. I can actually put my 4 wheeler in the back with the tailgate up and pull my TT. It would not fit in the Chev...

I personally don't care if the chevy is a second or two faster on the take-off I would rather have the heavier stronger frame and supension. These are trucks not race cars.

The question I have to ask is this: What's the relevance of a 10 year old test to us today? I'm willing to bet that most of the '00 Fords are still on the road and most of the GMs are recycled by now..... LOL

The purpose is to educate us about how silly some of the comparisons can be and to not pay too much attention to them (not to mention they're kinda funny)
