Me and a buddy of mine both have a 97 Powerstroke. His is a 1 ton that never moves without being hooked to a 35 ft gooseneck loaded with round bales of hay and mine is a 3/4 ton that has pulled a gooseneck about three times since I had it. Neither one of them will pull like they ought too. He took his to the Ford dealer and they told him it had low compression in one cylinder. He pulled the motor out, took it somewhere, it was taken completely down and they couldn't find anything wrong with it, they build the heads and sent the injectors off to be checked. THey told him he needed one injector. He put the engine back in and it still won't pull like it should. Someone told him it might be the wastgate stuck, but we played with it and it will open and shut like its supposed to, we tied a wire to it and held it open and it still did the same thing.
Okay, heres where it gets tricky. both trucks do the same thing, if they sit and are idling and you put your foot all the way to the floor on the accelerator, both of them rev to around 2600, hesitate there about 3 or 4 seconds, then rev the rest of the way to tached out.
