Im new and Ive been using ether to start the truck for the 3 or 4 months weve had it when the key is clicked to the run position where the glow plugs would normally come on it just goes click click click and no plugs always have to use ether is this the plugs or the relay/controller this is 94 7.3L IDI i know there have probably been a million post in the past about this but i figured it would be faster than sifting through tell i found one with the same problem
my buddy that currently has my truck has a 95 stroker that he drives regularly and it also has a starting issue aswell his light comes on and stays on for about 10 sec in the morning but for the first start of the day we have to cycle the key switch 2 or 3 times and sometimes use ether to get it going after that it will usually do ok throughout the day if its fairly warm outside is that normal
if its not real cold he shouldnt have to cycle them more than once. How fast does it crank? Im not a powerstroke guy, but they need to turn over fast to start good.
Your buddys glowplugs are nowhere as easy to change abd I doubt if they are in the same price range. lol I'm not even sure how to check them on a stroke, they are under the valve covers, and supposedely the gasket is the wireing harness. I don't know if the harness works right without the valve cover bolted down or not. If it is slowing down noticably after 8 seconds, something is weak and it probably isn't spinning up to par to start with.
There is a glow plug sticky at the top of the page that covers yours. Read through that and come back with any questions you may have.
well i think mine got figured out thanks to all the good guys around here im just kinda concerned about his.... i like it simple thats why i opted for the IDI i want a powerstroke too cause i want a 4x4 Crew Cab and there seems to be more of those on the market but that will be a couple years down the road... im building this one for a work/ off road and the stroke will be for pullin distance on family vacations or long hauls for work
