I've read in some of the other posts about problems with the multi-function switch in regards to turn signals. On my 1998 Expy EB, the right turn signal is starting to get flaky. Sometimes when I select the right turn signal, I get a fast blinking sound, but the flashing green indicator does nothing. After several seconds, it will slow down and the green indicator for right turn starts flashing. This happens intermittently. I've checked both front and rear turn signal bulbs and they are good.
Is this the way the problem with the multi-function switch starts to show up?
From some of the posts on this issue, it appears that there was a recall a couple of years ago concerning this. Is this true...and is the recall still in effect...in other words, is the Ford dealer required to replace this at no charge to me? Since this is intermittent, I'll bet at this point if I take it to the dealer, it won't act up and they will say nothing is wrong.
I just hate to continue riding around with undependable turn signals.
My F-150 would do it. If I had the wheel tilted all the way down (where I like it) it would do the rapid click, no light thing. If I tilted it up one notch, everything was fine. I always meant to get it checked but service is such a pain, I never did. I haven't checked the Expedition yet.
The F-150 did it from day one and it wasn't intermitent if I had the wheel all the way down.
BTW, your handle looks familiar. Do you post on a board with the initials LB? Just curious.

I checked the Expedition and the turn signal works no matter where the wheel is tilted.
I hope to be a non musically inclined, lousy singer that won't be Left Behind.
Thanks for posting your turn signal problem. I had the very same problem on a recent trip, and had checked every bulb, fuse, and other possible cause for the right turn signal and brake light not working. When I read your problem, I simply readjusted the tilt up one notch, and everything worked.
If you pull the column plastic off you will see that all the wires that you are talking about are loose in there. While I have not had the same problems I could guess that in the "full down" position the tilt may be pinching or pulling on the wires causing the turnsignal to speed up. Try opening the column, all you need is a philips screw driver, and look to see if wires are getting tugged or pinched when you move the tilt up and down.
