My truck was runnin fine yesterday, this mornin i went to start it and it started once and then died now it wont start and my ground cable is getting hot. now i dont know electrical to well but i do know hot wires are bad. any ideawhy my ground cable would be hot?
Poor connection or faulty cable. Insulated cable can break down without noticing from the outside.
Inspect the connection, and wiggle the cable. You should be able to detect any problems within the insulation.
You suggest that the truck will not start. Does not start or does it not turn the engine over? What sounds does it make.
Being very specific is helpful to those trying to diagnose over the internet.
If the engine does not turn over, it may indicate a dead short. Many variables here.
Knowing a little more will help.
it will turnover just not starting, it tried to a couple of times but then my battery went dead. before that though my ground connection on the battery started to smoke abd thats when i realized it wasd hot. if it had a bad ground would that let it turn over and not start or is it most likely related to my past fuel problem
This starting problem and earlier problems may or may not be related to the battery cable.
This will take some deduction. First charge the battery to make sure that it is still good. Fix the battery cable so that it does not melt down, and make sure that all grounds are adequate. Poor grounds will result in heat. You need a good ground to the engine block as well as a good chassis ground.
Start by eliminating the know problems, and then you can work on the rest.
