So i knew i had a pan leak due to 4-5 bolt holes being stripped and i know the stock bolts are 10mm. My question is will 11mm bolts fit if i drill and tap the holes on the case without having to drill the holes in the pan bigger?
Didn`t know you could get a 11mm bolt let alone a tap. How about a 7/16 SAE bolt and tap? I bet 7/16 would fit the pan without drilling and easy to get that size so easy to try it in the pan.
7/16in is 10.8mm near as I can tell.
The torque requirement on the bolt is low as is the load so grade is unimportant.
A friend of mine had a similar problem with a Chevy, except when he dropped the pan 4 bolts wrung off flush with the trans case flange. None was in a blind hole. He drilled the bolts out and used smaller bolts with nuts through the holes. Never leaked. I think the stock bolts were 8mm and as soft as putty.
yeah personally i think the idea of steel bolts going into an aluminum case is kinda stupid but hey i would hate to have to drop that thing if the entire case was steel
