Learned something new today

I replaced my PIE iPod adapter today with a Brandmotion adapter.

They both have goods and bads, but one HUGE minus for the PIE was that if I hardwired the power to it, it would require a reset every time I turned the truck off which meant pulling a fuse for a few minutes... yuck. So, I wired it into the same circuit that powered the radio and the radio would only recognize it around 1 out of 5 times... and the only way to get the radio to find it is to cut power and restart...yuck #2.

The Brandmotion is designed wired into the radio power. I believe it is set up to power itself then allow power to the radio to ensure that the radio always finds the CAN-BUS accessory. Unfortunately, unlike the PIE, the brandmotion will not charge a 2nd Gen iPod Touch without an adapter... oh well.

I told you that so I could tell you this...

While I was looking for places to stuff all of the new wires I found that the wiring already exists for the auto-lamp sensor. I remember this question came up once or twice before, and nobody knew the answer... well, Just like the AUX IN jack, and the iTBC, and the fog lights, and the 16 pin radio connection, and the B-pillar speakers... The wiring is there, but connected to a dummy.

This might be a good sign that the redundant audio control wires are already there, too...just waiting for a new clockspring and steering wheel.
