Depends on how far you want to take it. Some have gone as far as completely sanding off the old bumpy texture the panels have.
But in general just give it a overall sand to help the pain hold some. Also you can coat the top of the panel with a thin layer of bondo to help paint stick some and allow it too last longer since it can get beat up fairly bad there from sun and abuse. Clean it off good with some acetone or something similar. Than spray your adhesion promoter, than paint in several coats!
on the pieces i didnt sand and bondo i scrubbed them with a green scrubbie and dish detergent to get of the first layer of grease and grime...then i cleaned them again with SEM soap (got off even more grime)...used a toothbrush for the crevices...and then finally i used SEM plastic prep...it all added up to great success on all my interior parts
thanks festus! They are holding up great so far! even when i've knocked around the vent panels by my feet they get scuff marks like you'd expect but they just wipe right off like any other interior...no scratches or flaking...fingers crossed it stays that way for awhile at least!
The Vent Kick Panels ar by far the worst for wearing... So if the SEM is holding up well on those areas then it must be a great product, and you did your prep work really well.
