SCT X3 Newbie need help
I bought the SCT X3 and downloaded the SCT device updater. Do i need to hook up the programmer to the computer and ensure its current before hooking it up to the truck to get the trucks setup. I know that i have to download the truck info so i can send that to Jody at DP Tuner. I just did not want to mess up the truck or the tuner by doing it wrong. any help would be great thanks guys. Love the forum, learned so much from you dudes. THANKS

You can go out, plug the SCT into your truck, and pull the strategy so your tuner can get to work. E-mail that to Jody. Start with the key out of the ignition and follow the on screen prompts after you plug in the tuner.
If you've already DL'ed the SCT software, there isn't much more you need to do until the tunes arrive. If you have any canned tunes already installed, you can try them. Make yourself a folder on your computer for your tunes. Put it somewhere where you can find it easily.

You should go ahead and connect your new device to your PC via USB connector and update your Firmware on the device first. Then just connect to your trucks OBDII DLC port and "Read Vehicle Strategy"...write down this info and all the details about your rig...exhaust setup, EGR setup, lifted? larger tires?...etc.. then send this to your tune writer. Anymore questions just ask away. Everyone is here to help.

thanks for the info, just nervous instructions for me were not to clear. So out of the box its cool to connect the tuner to the truck. will do in the morning, i know Jody is probally wondering were my strategy is.

im not computer friendly. just pluged the x3 into the computer and tried to do the update, cant get this thing to do anything other than scrolling threw the option.

Unplug it from the computer and open the SCT software on your computer. It should prompt you to plug in the X3. Once your computer and SCT software recognize the X3, you can update the firmware.

just pluged it into the truck to get the stratagy and got a vehicle not supported code would not work. I hate computers damn this thing, really frusterated so far edge is much easier to use.

Take it easy. Once you get things setup, it's pretty easy to work with.
You have the SCT software on your computer, correct?
Without plugging in the X3, what do you see when you open the application on your computer? Does it prompt you to connect the X3? If you did, do you have the USB cable plugged into the port on top of the X3?

That's the connection prompt. Plug your USB cable into the tuner, then into the computer. Once your X3 is connected, you can click the update device firmware option on your computer.
When doing this, or loading tunes, you shouldn't need to touch any buttons on the X3.
