I tried to order the XG-8 PTFE lubricant at my local ford dealership. He looked it up and sure enough that's what it's used for. Motorcraft doesn't stock it and one other source he uses doesn't either. What's a reasonable alternative. Give me specifec brands if you can please and where there sold.
Thanks,
Wayne
He can't order it? My dealer can get anything from the local warehouse the next day.
I'd say any teflon based grease should be fine. I think the teflon stays fluid enough through all temp ranges. It won't get sticky when cold. I did my 2001 about 3 years ago and it's been fine ever since.
I was right there when he called them, John. They said they didn't stock it. He called another dist. they use and they didn't have it either.
I do want to use a teflon base lub. but sometimes it's hard to determine if you are getting the right thing by reading the name and description on them. They've got all kinds of fancy names and acronyms for things that I don't understand. That's why I was asking for a specific name.
We've got a Schaeffer's dealer about 20 min from here. I'll check and see if they have it. In the mean time I'll check at the local parts houses and see what they have in a PTFE based lubricant.
Was the slip shaft the culprit? If not check your trans mount, I had one split in half and the trans would jump up and smack the floor when I gouged on it. Couldnt tell it was broke sitting still.
It wasn't a superduty, but just throwing it out there for ya.
They have you on the right track here. All I have to say is make sure that you chock your tires before doing this. You can get some serious injuries if you don't. Take it from lessons learned from others on here. Not fun.

Wow, I just scored an XG8 motorcraft teflon lubricant, new, on ebay. Just thought I'd type in teflon lubricant. Ebay never ceases to amaze me, the stuff you can get on there.
I cleaned the splines on the support and the inside of the yoke real good with brake cleaner then spread the teflon stuff all over the support and inside the yoke with my finger. Then I bottomed out the yoke on there a few times to spread the teflon lube around real good. I haven't had a problem out of it in years.
I ziptied the boot on there as well. Just cut off the metal bands and use some black zip ties.
I can't believe what a difference it made greasing the slip joint. I took your word for it, but I admit I was skeptical. It's smooth as silk now. I guess I shouldn't ever doubt you guys.
Thanks so much for your help.
