From: Bay Area, Unfortunately
Rotate it a tooth, then adjust the wires on the cap accordingly.

I saved this from an old thread some time back, not sure who's. Sorry

There are two different times the piston goes to TDC once just after exhausting & the other just before the Power stroke.

You have to find the TDC just before the power stroke.

If you have the valve cover off the right bank you can watch the intake valve close and the timing mark come to TDC on the timing marker. If not take the sparkplug out of the #1 cylinder stick your finger in the hole and rotate the engine until you feel the air trying to push past your finger.Stop !
Have the timing mark on the harmonic balancer at the TDC mark on the timing marker.
Now place the distributor in the engine with the vacuum advance pointing toward the left front tire to give it room to Swivel.

Now you just have to make sure the rotor is pointing toward the #1 position on the distributor cap, make sure the wires are in the correct firing order.

Number 1 spot is usually at the back of the distributor cap but it can be anywhere ,just as long as the rotor points toward it when you put the cap back on and the wires are in the right order.

This is obviously on a V8 but same principle applies, hope it helps
