I've noticed a lot of questions regarding updating newer tow lights and paddles to tow lights, So I figured I would include the info I read while converting my 2002 Ex from paddles (blinker, heater, power) to the 2005 style tow mirrors (blinker, heater, power, running lights).
1) According to the guy at Fairview Ford in San Bernardino, CA, Ford changed the plugs from round to rectangular in Feb 2002. My truck helped confirm this being an April of 02 having a rectangular plug. Good place to find this date is the sticker in the drivers door jamb
2) Ford does make an adapter harness for the newer rectangular plug mirrors to the round harness on truck, these are part numbers a) 1C3Z14A411BA- left hand side b)1C3Z14A411AA- right hand
Now this plug will cover you for the blinker, power, and heat but not for running lights
3)Even if your truck has the newer plug there isn't a wire in your trucks harness for the running lights till 2005(?) so you're going to have to run a wire from your mirror to your running light circuit behind your headlight switch for both doors. I will include pictures of this process when I get it done on my truck
My 2005 mirrors plugged right in to my 2002 wiring and everything works fine minus running lights. I know this info is all here but I figured I would include what I found in one thread. Feel free to add anything I missed regarding mirror info
Where did you buy the new mirrors and how much do they cost? I have shopped ebay as well as Ford. I am concerned that some on ebay will vibrate and the Ford dealer by me wanted close to $800.00. Thanks.
I got them for $299 for the pair from am autoparts on E-bay. I was worried about the rattle also but the mirrors work great. I am going to tackle the running lights next week and will include the pictures
Interesting...I did the upgrade to chrome towing mirrors with the lights/signals from paddle mirrors (with turn signals) on my '02. It was built in January, and has the rectangular plug, because even though I did the mod a couple years ago now, I recall at the time they plugged right in and all I had to do was splice in the wire for the clearance light. I just looked up my OASIS, since I didn't remember the exact date, and mine was born January 30, 2002, so they must have started the new plugs that week...
Gee, knowing this now, I'm glad mine was built when it was, because that job could have been more difficult than it was since I bought the mirrors aftermarket!
Did you ever finish wiring in the running lights and take pics of that? I'm not sure if I"m going to worry about that or not. I'm hoping to put the 05 Mirrors on my 00 Excursion tonight. I'll be stoked if the blinkers work w/o extra wiring. I did order these same adaptors. But I didn't have blinkers on my truck before, so I'm guessing that the wires aren't there for that either...

I'm in the same boat. I want turn signal mirrors but I assume I don't have the wiring.
I remember years ago when I bought my X, the dealer bought me a set of tow mirrors. That was part of the deal when I bought it. I specifically remember that the new mirrors came with the pigtail adapters. I didnt need them and sold them for $40 for the pair.
Well... All installed with the new pigtails and what not... However there is no blinky blinky... Back to the research... I didn't care about the marker lights, but I figure if we're running one wire for the blinker might as well run one for the marker too. But for now at least I have tow mirrors!
