isn't 1/2 north of you an island? I'm just finishing up on my 4X4 u-joints. I thought it would be plenty cheap diy but now that I add up the totals its lookin like close to $250 in parts. Hope yours goes swell
yeah but my first thought was that u joints were $15 apeice not $35. Then there was $16 for each inner axle seal, $6 apeice for outer seals, $13 apeice for the spindle hub seals ect... then there was the tools I didn't have yet. I should've just fixed the brake line for now but my buddy is tryin to talk me into pullin at the fair this year. I'd have to do stock diesel class and I'm afraid I'll either get my rear end handed to me or blow something in my tranny up...
Im waiting for another shop to give me a price. The only down side to doing it at my bidiies house is, nearest parts store and 35 minutes from his house.
Damn the rain. Even though its so necesary, it really messes up the shade-tree mechanics work scheduel. I got my right hub and brakes back on between the rain.
I went out and picked up some doors that the PO had laying around for my truck, and the thought hit me... How hard is it to find the vent windows for these things? I've now got 2 sets of them, and it just strikes me that they're likely not easy to find.
Incidentally, the doors I got... A drivers door rust free, I think it has all the hardware... A passengers door rust free, no hardware/glass... Another passenger door, I think all hardware/glass, but it has some rot on the bottom. All for free.

At least around here the glass isn't too hard to come by YET. Those rust free doors are good property. Good score.
Yeah, the rust free doors are a GREAT score. The bonus to it was, the guy thanked me for taking them!
Rust free is always good, especially for an older truck. Extra bonus getting thanked for taking them.

Yep, beer should make it look better, maybe a little out of focus , but better.
I'm having a great time working on my truck, replaced the RF caliper, caliper bracket and slide pins. Also new pads on the front. Oh, and the rear brake line rusted out and started leaking, bad. Have to replace that now too. Bad part, it started leaking right behind the freshly filled 38 gallon fuel tank, so there is no way to get to where it was leaking. I just ended up cutting it on either side of the fuel tank and have to thread the new line through the frame rail. Now, I need a few more fittings and I can get it all hooked back up and bled.

THe plan is to replace the u-jpinys on the front axle if I can get them out. after all they are 21 years old, may as well replace them since I have it that far apart. and on a side note, the ingition switch craped out, lucky I made it home on easter.
