I picked up a set of Monroe Reflex shocks for the Ex last week, and got around to installing them yesterday. Took me about an hour total-probably the easiest shocks I've ever changed on a vehicle-no lift,jacks,ramps,etc...I just slid under the Ex and changed them. I changed he originals that had 70K miles on them since one was definitely bad and the others were pretty weak. The test drive after installation was much better-the wander is reduced by a substantial amount, and the ride is much more controlled-no more hopping or bucking on rough roads-and suspension "chatter" across the bumps is much more controlled. These are what I would say are a good compromise between the "too soft" stock shocks and the much firmer Bilsteins. So,maybe these are an option for those that don't want to firm up the suspension too much on their daily drivers. Made by Tenneco, these are supposed to be identical to the Rancho RSX,but are a bit less expensive since you're not paying for the white/red color scheme.

i had them on my Bronco and have to say really liked them as well. Nice compromise between Rancho and Bilstein. I never towed with the truck so I can't give an opinion on how they performed in regards to that though -- but the ride definitly was very nice

I have the Reflex shocks on the F150 that I drive at work, and they have approx 160K miles on them and are still doing their job well. I also had them on the F150 I sold to Dad,and they're still on it-I'd guess they're around 150K miles now on that truck. I've been very pleased with them in the past, and they are the only shcok I would consider on my vehicles other than the Bilsteins.

I have the Reflexes on my V10 (which just sold). I put them on last year. The only issues I had with them is they rusted quickly and they seemed to get mega stiff (hehe) when it was cold out. They seemed like a good shock otherwise.
When I had them on the F-150 they would ride really nice for a while but they didn't really last that long for me. At the time though we were working in the high desert and I was driving on dirt roads to get to job sites quite often (washboard).
I'm glad to see this post. When I bought my 2001 X back in 2005 it had the Reflex's on it. I've put 110,000 miles on the truck and they still feel great. I was thinking there was no way they could still be good. Thanks for the information!!!
To clarify the ranchos are also made by tenneco but do not have the same type of automatic damping adjuster, similar but the ranchos are beefier. The reflexs have an impact sensor that changes the way the shock behaves when you accellreate, brake, hit a pothole, etc. They basically relieve the pressure of the valve so the shock travels freely, i.e. The wheel stays on the road but you don't feel a thing inside. It reacts in milliseconds and is quite a nice piece. For anyone interersed they have a rebate going that started today if you buy all four.

I just bought the monroe reflex at sears last friday and picked them up today. I bought them there as they had a 50% off sale from friday 5p.m. till noon saturday. they cost me 162.94 for all 4.
I had also installed 4 Reflex shocks on a Chevy Avalanche I owned prior to the Excursion. I towed the same 24 1/2 foot hybrid trailer with both vehicles and the shocks were just fine in a towing situation.

I actually found these at Rockauto for $166 shipped. I was surprised that they were that cheap there-most places around here are $55-65 each for the same shocks.
