So i have aftermarket turbo, air intake and now a straight pipe. Would you guys recommend turning up the pump just a little, like a half flat to a flat. or am i just wasting time and money out tail pipe. i do have a egt gauge as well, and no i don't want to "roll coal"
have you turned the pump up since you installed the turbo?are you currently getting any smoke?you want a light haze with heavy throttle.oh and do you have a pyro?
the truck had the turbo when i got it so what the other did i am not sure. I can get some smoke if i lag it real bad or i will get a little under load. I have never touched to pump myself. And yes i do have a pyro. also one more question, is it easy to turn the pump up or do i have to take apart the whole front of the motor.
You only have to take the access plate of the pump, 2 screws. If you get smoke under load and while the turbo is spooled up it will not gain you anything. What kind of egt's are you running and where is your probe located.
Egt's are very low, like three or four hundred around town and 500 cruising at 65, i have only had to back out of it once at 11,000 degrees, that was pulling about 6000lb up a 6.5% grade for three miles over a pass. I have never looked to see where the probe is located. At full spool i don't get smoke it is leading up to full spool with a load.
How much boost are you running at 2000 RPM with a load and your foot planted too the floor? Keeping the engine from 'rolling coal' is about matching air and fuel, and my experience is the intake can't keep up with the fuel system (non-intercooled). My advice, turn up the fuel until you start pushing more smoke than you like, then back it off.
