I just aborted a brake job for want of a proper sized torx bit for the caliper guide pins. my bent selection of T45's are too loose. The T50 is too big. Flashback’s of brake jobs of yesterday are rife with broken torx bits and knuckles. Is there a better tool and what the heck size it. Thanks for any help. Front calipers

It is probably a 47 Torx. It is a fairly popular size.
FWIW: They sell Torx templates on a ring for $5 (Autozone) with all the different Torx sizes. Insert plastic Torx into hole, viola, you have the right size to buy the correct driver.
Northern Tools sells a rack of impact Torx bits for about $10.00. I would not use them on a impact wrench over 60 ft pounds, but, it should work swell on a hand wrench.
One suggestion, once you find the right size, take the bit and tap it in slightly with a hammer. This will seat it past any burrs and might loosen the brake dust and rust on the threads. Make sure the brakes are hot.
