ok it's been raining like a monsoon here the past couple of days and whilst out in one the many downpours the truck did a couple of strange things.
1st the battery light goes on on the dashboard, i'm ok well it's wet out..
it stays on. then the CEL goes on, and a weird moaning sound comes from the engine. the power steering is still working at this point..
pull the code it a P0340.. camshaft position sensor.
park the truck in the rain until it gets dry enough to open the hood today.
clear the code and check the alternator output.. looks fine around 14 volts.
take it out for a spin .. battery light on then after 20 minutes goes out!!..
pull the codes again no CEL but stored the P0340..clear it disconnect battery to reset the computer and drive again 20 minutes. battery light out and no codes sofar ... alt still putting out around 14 volts at idle.
battery reads 12-13 volts engine off.moaning sound sort of goes away.
any thoughts?? leave it alone for while to see what's happening ? anything else i can check?
any monster water holes you drove though? I had a similar thing happen when had my old honda civic. We go some hard core rain and my only way home tok me through water that came over the hood so i plowed through. Had all sorts of crazy lights and stuff coming on, got it home and into the garage and let it run for about an hour at idle, when I cut it off and disconnected the battery everything was cool. Think it is just water getting into some of the sensors and possible even some having been sucked into the intake. If everything is col now just keep an eye on it.
yea, prolly like i said, the water gets in the sensor and relays and stuff and causes all sorts of havoc, but once it dries it's like it never happened
