As Marv noted, there is absolutely nothing wrong with using the green coolant.

The reason people like me switch to an Extended Life Coolant (ELC) is because there is no testing of the coolant needed for SCA levels, and the coolant doesn't need to be flushed like the green does.

The Chevron ELC I use is good for 750,000 miles, or one million miles with an extender, before needing to be flushed.

Basically, for the life of this engine, I no longer have to worry about the same maintenance levels I would have, if the green were still in my engine.

Plus, with no silicate fallout, I don't have to worry about my water pump being eaten, like I would if I still had the green.

Stewart,

What I'd like to get my hands on is a "conversion kit" for an eight-gallon system.

They're made for OTR-size cooling systems, but not something as small as ours. Currently, available conversion kits are sized to convert five OTR's.

Hmmmm, I don't need that much.......

It's a chemical kit that simply dumps into the green coolant (with SCA's), and converts it to ELC. Of course, after a thorough mixing, you pull a sample and send off for lab analysis, but what could be simpler?

So far, with the possible exception of Kragan/O'Reilly's (gotta' check that out), nobody's doing anything for us little guys, but I see a market there if the lab price was included (to be sure it gets done).

I'd sure buy into it.

That's interesting!

I'd never heard about a conversion kit being available.

I wonder if that kit is compatible with the E99 system.

The kits have been out for OTR's for a few years already, so the technology should be pretty-well proven.

I don't think I'd do it if I owned an E-99, as I wouldn't want the problem that Robin is starting to see in his.

It doesn't really matter. If you go green, buy the test strips and plan on adding SCA as needed. If you go gold plan on changing it every 100k, if you go ELC remember it was designed for the big trucks that do 100,000 + miles per year.

Personally I don't know if I would trust a fluid to be in my truck for 300k - 750k miles. I'm pushing 324,000 miles now and can't think of a single fluid that I haven't changed more than once. I'm not put off by changing my coolant every 100k, so I continue to run the gold coolant that came from the factory in mine.

I understand that train of thought, but because International recommends ELC for our 7.3's (L99's and up), I feel comfortable with the coolant being in my engine for years and years, miles and miles!

And I agree with you, Stewart.

ELC will be my eventual coolant, and the filter will still be there, but I dunno' what it'll catch.

I suppose it could be old precipitate "dropout", but eventually you'll get virtually all of it, and then....

Ok I finally checked my build date and serial number of my engine. Built 2/22/99 Serial# 959165. So I'm good to run the Fleet Charge? I also noticed that on the other valve cover that is says 250 hp. I thought these were 235 hp? Im not complaining about 15 extra hp, just curious.
