so i got an estimate to rebuild the dana 60 i picted up a while back, granted this is axles and everything, and a re gear.... but 2400 bucks?! does that even sound close to right?
If you are paying full retail for all of the parts from the shop doing all of the work then that's about right.
Unless you are wasting money on parts you will never really need then it's a whole lot cheaper buying everything online buying a manual so you can do it yourself.
It's really easy if you know how to use a dial indicator and torque wrench.
Four years ago 1500 replaced every bearing, ball joint and seal, installed a Trac Lok limited slip in a 92 D 60, then removed a 44 and installed it under my 250 IDI.
That was parts and labor.
From what I have seen in the IDI forum, parts and shop rates vary widely by region.
So unless you have replies from people close to you, the prices can be way off from what you will see in your area.
IDK that sounds a little steep to me and I work in a shop that is typically expensive around here. I think that you'd be better off taking the time to buy the parts to do it yourself, and then just renting the special tools if you need to. I'm sure it could be done much much much cheaper that way.
