My check engine light is coming on and it is a code 173...o2 sensor fault/rich. I am also experiencing rough idling (foot must be on accelerator to keep it going) for the first 10 minutes or so and flooding on short trips to the store and such.
I checked the sensor and it seems to be putting out the correct voltage as described in the Hayne's manual.
1. I am thinking it is either the fuel pressure regulator or a vacuum leak. Does this sound correct?????????
If so...which one.
2. If its vacuum related...I am COMPLETELY clueless. Where are all these vacuum lines located and how do I check them?
Vaccum leaks can be a real pain to track down. Start with a "hands on" inspection of all the little lines under the hood. Don't worry so much about what they do or why they work, just look for broken or melted connections. You may turn up several small problems this way.
Next use carb cleaner and spray a small shot at the area around gaskets that may be leaking. Usually the TB gasket is most common. Check the intake gaskets too. If the engine runs differently for a second or so you've found a leak. Also check around the injectors and at any vaccum fittings.
Just remember carb cleaner is flammable stuff, very flammable. Use a little and give it a second to evaporate. That way there's not so much that you can't get it put out if it does ignite.
I have the same truck. Don't forget the simple stuff, Cap-rotor-etc. I had a nasty dist. cap give me similar problems. The fuel pressure regulator is on the drivers side rear. Pull the hose off while its running to see if there is fuel, if so its bad. If you have a few miles on the clock change it anyway, I noticed a little better performance when I changed mine, But it is a slight pain to change. Same goes with the O2 it fairly inexpensive if the history is unknown or its got a ton of miles change it. dont forget to clear the codes.
Hope this helps
