Some cheby questions

1. When I do my state inspections on silverado's or GM trucks, when you turn the key off and keep the doors closed all interior power is still on,but on mine as soon as the key is off, everything is off. And this is on a WIDE range of years. And all types from hard work trucks to people with to much money and afraid of dirt luxary trucks. Did mine miss something on the Canadian assembly line or what?

2. Should it take 2-3 seconds to shift from park to a drive gear or is my transmission showing her age?

3. Auto headlights, How do I kill this thing? Its more annoying than useful when I need to go into "Blackout" drive.

4. Adjusting the E-Brake. How do I do it on this thing without going into over kill? I've heard its a design flaw but on some trucks it works fine and on ones like mine it does'nt and had to fail some people for it.

5. At 150,XXX miles she still runs and drives like new, (minus slow shifting into a drive gear) does'nt leak a drop of anything, and aside from cheap design and parts from GM never left me stranded. But she does knock on cold starts everyonce and a while and getting more frequent. Can't tell where its coming from either.

6. Buddy at work told me to put a set of old 350 heads I have on my tiny 4.8L and said its bolt up and will work fine. I'm calling BS. Am I wrong and it will work or should I even bother?

Lot of questions for a California fleet truck.......Hopefully someone can answer them, I tried a couple of chevy forums but no luck. I guess since I don't have brand new fully loaded and what not its not worth their time.

Thanks.

Not an expert but here goes.
1.Don`t know but I would prefer the way yours is.
2.No it shouldn`t. Maybe try a fluid and filter change?
3. No idea.
4.I assume you have rear disc brakes? Then pull the rotors and there should be an adjusting screw (if shoes are not shot).
5. Check for bad motor mounts. Maybe an oil change with OEM filter?
6. Don`t know but why bother?

If I remember right the power staying on until you open the door was standard on some rigs. On my wifes old Toyota Matrix the radio and acc power would stay on until you opened the door. Book said it was supposed to do it.

1. Retained accessory power (RAP) is a vehicle power mode that permits the operation of selected customer convenience items after the ignition switch is turned OFF. These selected items will remain in operation until a passenger compartment door is opened or until the RAP function timer reaches its shut-off limit.

The body control module (BCM) monitors the ignition switch position, battery condition and passenger compartment door status to determine whether RAP should be initiated. If the ignition switch transitions from RUN/ON to OFF, the battery level is within the acceptable range and the passenger compartment doors are closed, the BCM closes the RAP relay. This provides power for the following:

• The sunroof (if equipped)

• The power windows

• The power door locks

• The radio

• The OnStar® System (if equipped)

The BCM turns OFF the RAP function and opens the RAP relay when one of the following conditions are met:

• The BCM senses the opening of any door (or the liftgate on utility vehicles) in the passenger compartment.

• The BCM detects a decrease in battery capacity below a prescribed limit.

• The BCM receives a message from its internal timer indicating the end of the RAP period after 20 minutes.

• The transition from OFF to RUN/ON or ACC of the ignition switch

2. 150k and it's still going I would be happy.
3. The automatic lamp control (ALC) system and the DRL feature can be temporarily disabled by performing the following procedure:

Note: The ALC and DRL cannot be turned off on the Canadian vehicles.

•Turn the ignition to RUN.
•Press the DOME OVERRIDE button four times within six seconds.
A chime will sound informing you that the system is off. The system will remain disabled until the ignition is cycled off and then on or by pressing the DOME OVERRIDE button four more times within six seconds. The chime will sound again signaling that the system has been reactivated.

4. To be honest as long as your parking brake components are fuctioning properly there no need to adjust them.

5. There is a TSB explaining a knock on a cold engine is not a cause for concern and has nothing to do with it's reliability. I have delt with this one a few times.....run it.

6. Theres no way in hell old 350 heads will fit your engine. GM redesigned their V8 engines in 2000 to the LS series they use today.
