Hey all, I just registered, been haunting the forums for about 3 years now.
I have the great fortune to be heavily buried up to my neck in ford trucks; bumps dents working on picking up a slick or two, and of course the modern stuff.
Last year I got a 70 model 3000 tractor. It doesnt load on the old car hauler trailer too well so I'm looking for a bit.... Bigger? solution.
I have a lead on about 10 F600s (bump and dent era) some stake beds, some boom trucks etc, various styles. My neighbor happens to have a very well preserved and recently running (last 2 years) stake bed that I can pick up for about $150. Not sure of the year, don't care really yet... looks like about a 75ish
Has anyone ever mounted a rollback on one of these trucks? I've seen a couple of you guys with flatbed dumps loading stuff up with the aid of ditches and ramps... What about tossing a rollback platform on there. Nothing for heavy commercial use, but being able to load my tractor or a truck here and there would be nice.
If anyone has any good quality pics of an F600 slick era through dent era with rollback (cause thats my options within 5 miles) I'd really appreciate it.
As long as you have a long enough (but not too long) wheelbase on an F600, I see nothing that will keep you from mounting a rollback body on an F600 cab and chassis. I do not have any pictures for you. As frame widths on medium trucks are fairly standard, this should not be an issue. What I suggest is that when you are looking at rollback bodies you find out the back of cab to rear axle measurement of the truck it was mounted on (if possible) and see how it matches up with the rear of cab to rear axle measurement of the truck you will be putting it on. I would try to stay wthin 6" to 10" of what it was originally mounted on to keep the load fairly well placed on the chassis.
awhtx (fellow YT forum member) will probably agree with me on this one, as the 3000 is not a particularly huge tractor. Yenko...why not upgrade/replace your current trailer? I haven't priced rollback beds lately, but upgrading your current trailer springs has got to be a more affordable option.
I've regularly loaded "my" early 4000 (about 4500# with loaded tires) onto a 7000# 16' trailer and a 10000# 14' ex-mobile-home trailer without any issues. Heck, even brought home a 7500# 6000 tractor home on that 16-footer.
Of course...a big ol' rollback would be fun to take to the shows!

Oh the trailer I have is good enough for the occasional loadup if I really need to. Its a dual axle 18' Its just kind of a pain to load the tractor onto with the adjustable wheel ramps. Takes a couple of tries sometimes to get lined up just right& then you gotta adjust the ramps a bit for the rear end being slightly wider. The trailers also got a fixed steel rail on each side thats mighty close to the rear tires on each side... Gotta be dead centered or you can tear into the tire.
I agree that the 3000 really isnt a big tractor... It does the job, It also gives me an excuse to get a big hauler to move it when needed. The F600 can be used to rescue a stranded hotrod or friend if need be, plus it can get junkyard parts cars alot easier than that trailer and hand crank wench can.... man I hate that thing....
I've seen a few rollbacks with stake pockets so you can dual purpose the bed and use it as a stake bed truck still... Be a pretty good deal for me. I'm not planning on hauling gravel or any super heavy loads so it oughta be perfectly fine.
Thnx for your input everyone.... hope someone spots a picture of one of these... I've been checking fleabay and see plenty of F600's but i can't find a rollback on there.

I've driven lots of rollbacks over the years and no the "stake pockets" are not there for traditional stake bed sides they are for removable rails. The few I've seen that are designed for use with them don't roll back and just tilt like a dump body.
Personally, I prefer a ramp truck or rollback over a trailer any day. Heck, I'm trying to locate one for my 1949 F6. That said, wouldn't it be cooler to use a truck from the same era as the tractor? If going through the trouble of putting a rollback on a dent or bumpside, doing the same on an older truck w/newer drivetrain wouldn't cost much more, IMO.
Hey Havi, I'm rolling on the ground laughing, read your sig to my wife and wish you could have seen her face!!!!
For the first time, my wife was concerned why I wasn't out in the yard rearranging my projects. She thinks I'm depressed. I'm thinking, if I act really depressed, she'll encourage me to bring more trucks home. See, I may have this marriage thing figured out after all.
I've got 3 broncos and 6 pickups in the backyard...Haha!
I push em around with an old tire on the front of my quad rearranging them....FLOL!!! Thanks.
Back on thread,..... got my eye on a F700 flatbed dump with a 3208 Cat to haul rigs for me and tow a bumper pull toybox.
Jury is still out for me on the rollback verses flatbed dump question.
This is my 69 f600 rollback. 391 with 4 speed. No power steering, no 2 speed rear end If anyone has power steering on a junk truck they would part with i would be MOST interested
