Truck stalling. IAC Problems?

After starting in the morning the truck runs at a high idle to warm up, but at the first few stop signs leaving my house (probably the first 2-3 min) the engine dies. I start it back up and it idles properly again. Until the next stop. Also, sometimes when it is warm, it idles so low (around 500rpm) that it almost stalls. I have read it might be a sign of problems with the Idle Air Control (IAC). Is this part cleanable? Where exactly is it located? I have also seen people claiming it is a cheap part (like $30-50). I looked at Lordco today and they told me the IAC Motor was $160. Any thoughts?

The IAC can be bought at AutoZone, NAPA etc for about $70. It takes about ten minutes to change out. It is directly behind the throttle body you can't miss it, shaped like an L sticking up. Three bolts hold it in place.
It does sound like it's the IAC, do you have to hold the accelerator down at time to get it to start?

I have no problems with starting. Even after it stalls. Probably the best starting vehicle I've ever had.

Did this just start, maybe bad gas. Other things to check might be vacuum leaks, the fuel filter, incorrect idle speed. Doesn't sound like the IAC.

Can't really say if it just started. I just bought the truck (cheap) with some problems. This was one of them. Gas is new (94 octane) and already changed fuel filter (along with air filter, plugs and COPs).

Is there a difference between an IAC Valve and IAC Motor? I noticed in my service manual they call it a valve, but when I went to purchase one, they called it a motor.

Doesn't the idle speed come factory set? Is it adjustable? My OBD-II software listed the idle set for 752 rpm.

Yes you can clean the IAC. I cleaned mine but ended up buying one at NAPA and replacing it.

The nomenclature is a valve, just like your manual states. I would start looking for leaks prior to replacing the IAC. Having issues starting it seems to be the hallmark sign of a bad IAC and since you have no issues there it doesn't sound like it's the IAC.

The idle is pre-set at the factory but it could have been changed if the PO had removed the throttle body or messed with the idle screw. Are getting any codes?
