94 2wd 3.0 shift linkage???? help

i have no idea how this shift linkage attaches to the bracket on the trans..ive called the dealer and they said it hooks directly to that bracket??? problem is from what ive learned trying 150 times is that it doesnt fit unless theres some trick to it?? any suggestions.. i also had the truck running a little while ago but now when i go to start it nothing happens..not even a click of a dead battery/starter just nothing?>??? any idea to this as well..

thanks

should pop right on with a pair of pliers, probably the ball and socket type of linkage on the side of the transmission. Won't crank if you have it in the wrong gear (any gear but park or neutral). If you have messed with the shifter up in the cab when it was disconnected from the transmission you have probably gotten the linkage out of position indicating the wrong gear on the dash. Put the shifter in the cab in park, move the shifter on the side of the trans to park (all the way forward or back whichever is the case), and THEN connect the linkage. Have your truck's park brake on and wheels blocked. The truck could roll as you shift through neutral if this is not done. Safety first
